Clothing attachment placement

I was just given a clothing attachment that will "buff" my
experimentation during crafting. The only item I have that has sockets
is a backpack. How do I put the attachment in the socket of the
backpack?

I know this probably sounds like a silly question, but if I drag
the item to the backpack and drop it, it goes in the pack instead of
one of the 4 available sockets!

Thanks in advance!

Alas, I know of no way to place a clothing attachment on a backpack. I have
tried dozens of methods, not were successful.

I also have never heard of someone successfully doing this.

The good news is that any competent tailor can whip you up some 4 socket
items quite easily.

Have you tried putting the socket into a backpack that is full of items,
therefore nothing can go into the actual backpack, rather it goes into the
socket?
