Cloud vs. physical Stack

Couldn't seem to find the answer that I am looking for, so I apologize if it is out there already.

Here is my situation:

I have started to create HD videos for the company that I work for and obviously we are quickly running out of space to store videos, pics, docs....all the above. We currently have a 1TB mac mini, which is a pain in the butt, and a WD 1TB external. I am trying to put together information on pricing for an external stack to compare it to Google Drive options, which I already have.

What am I looking at on pricing for an external stack? Lets say 3 options, cheap, mid, and high end.

Also, what are your thoughts on using a cloud drive like google? Any issues with loss of data or inaccessibility from remote locations i.e. trade shows?

P.S. we don't use final cut or full versions of photoshop, yet, but will down the road.

Another route may be a diff mac with higher storage capabilities.....yes/no???

Thanks again,
Nathan

Cloud based storage is only as fast as your internet... usually way too slow when you actually need the file/data.

I would suggest a simple NAS device such as the Synology DS412+ and a pair of WesternDigital RE series Drives for a raid1 (mirror) setup. This will give a limited redundancy of your data but you still need a good backup strategy. This setup will allow you to easily add 2 more drives for future expansion.

On the cheaper side you could easily build something like a freenas server for about $225 plus the cost of the drives. (even cheaper if you have an old unused pc lying around)

The cheapest route would be to just buy a nas box. Qnap, Synology,... seems like everybody makes one. Be sure to research reviews as somoe are junk.

Lastly I stress that you consider your backup method. All drives die at some point and you have to be prepared for it. ( it didn't sound as if you had any)
