well, finally i got myself a 9600 pro for a ridiculous
price , here are some problems ive encountered
Installed it succesfully but it showed that the card is a 9600 series
[in display properties and Device Manager]instead of a 9600 pro, then
started 3d mark 2001,after showing the score , the system re-booted.
Then the system would not boot at all, after 5 mins the system
came up again, but the Pc would hang numerous times,
Desktop looked corrupted and ****. SO only 3 hrs after i
purchased the card, i was mind****ed.I took the card back to him
where none of the above mentioned problems occured, but on the
other had the card was not stress tested at all , just Delta force
land warrior for a couple of minutes. When the card was installed there
it showed the same thing, ie 9600 series card.
He told me that the problem was my friend (where i tested the card) had a 300 watts Mercury Smps and he had a VIP 350 watts smps.
Was that entire scene caused because of the smps or is there something i am missing.I am getting a new system in about 2-3 days i just got this card before hand.
the card's make is Club 3d

The problems you describe (esp. rebooting) could well be caused by an inferior PSU. What card were you replacing? It could also be conflicting drivers left over from the old card.

also, from the THG Buyers' guide:
Brands to avoid: (sorted alphabetically)

For ATI based cards: GeXcube (formerly known as Gigacube), PowerColor (aka Club3D in Europe)
Club3d are not held in high esteem by our resident experts, I belive they do stuff like sticking slower RAM on their cards, which is probably why it was cheap... see if you can take the card back, and get a better make for a few $ more maybe?

300 watt PSU is probably not enough for that rig if it's generic.

If it's a name brand (Antec, Enermax) it should be OK though.

Best thing to do: Try it on someone else's system who also has a good PSU.

On a side note, all 9600 cards may show as "9600 series", not necessarily as 9600 PROs, I think.
The way to tell is to install powerstrip or another overclocking utility and see what speed the core & memory are running at.

If it's Club3d, and Club3d is the same as powercolor, it could be a 9600 PRO "lite", which is a 9600 PRO gpu running at the proper speed with slower memory.

Really I'd be surprised if it was the PSU, cause really the R9600 draws much less power than even the full R8500, and definitely less than an AIW R8500DV. It would really mean it's a sucky PSU, as even the rest of his stuff doesn't draw much (although he hasn't listed memory and such, but a 1600+ doesn't chew through too much at all).

This actually sounds exactly like the Fastwrites issues I was having before.

Could even be driver related. Old nV? What drivers used? Etc.

For all we know it is the PSU, and I wouldn't rule out it being just a crappy card due to the builder in question. But I have a feeling it's the Fastwrites, as it's exactly how my problem with Mozilla and 3Dmk03 presented itself at first.

Harry, here's my original issue, see if it matches your feelings about what's happening to you with the reboots and corruption.

the memory used was a 256 mb sd
I only tried out the drivers which came along with the
card, i dont remeber which version they were,
since it all took place so fast i did not bother to install
the latest drivers.
@TheGreatGrapeApe :- could you please pos the link again
because its not opening

that could be a possiblity too,
coz the system earlier had a 5200 non - ultra,
but i am 100% sure that i removed the drivers from the
add/remove before setting my card up

I has also been suggested by a couple of people to me that
it could be caused as the core is getting over heated.
I am sure i checked the fan and it was running.
In case it is a heating problem , is there some way to
go around it ........coz i only toyed around with
3d mark 2001 for 15 - 20 mins and the problems started to
surface.
