Im pretty clueless when it comes to PC gaming or PC's in general
I have a Dell Inspiron 3670 Desktop and im wondering if I can build onto it, to run games like rust and csgo at decent rates?

here are my current specs.
Intel Core i5-8400 @2.80GHz
12gb RAM
Intel UHD graphics 630

just wondering if i am better off building a new computer or if i can upgrade a few things to run some pc games well?
Thank you for your time!

The problem that you're going to run into with your system is the power supply. It's not sufficient (either 290watts or 365watts) to power a "gaming" graphics card. You might be able to drop a GT 1030 in there and get ok frames at low to mid settings, but that's just a guess on my part.

the cpu, ram and hard drive can definitely be salvaged for a good mid range gaming build (use the hard drive as a secondary drive though, I highly recommend you get an ssd for boot and your favourite games). the main thing you'll need is a graphics gard and as wolf said a better power supply. Preferabaly you'd just take the ram and cpu out and start afresh with a new case, motherboard and cpu and case fans, but you can probably make do with them if your on a budget. As for the graphics card, Anything from a rx570 to a gtx1660 super and all thats in between (noteably the rx580, rx590, gtx1060, gtx1650, gtx1650 super and gtx1660 which fall in between the 2) would make sense for your needs and the cpu, to find out which one is best for you I found some benchmarks for the cards

also for the power supply any one with 500 watts or more from a reputable brand (corsiar, evga, seasonic, thermaletake, coolermaster and silverstone are the ones that come off the top of my head, if you see any other brand power supply feel free to ask)

Depending on your budget, get yourself a decent power supply as others have stated, and get the card for your budget. The RX series is great if you want to game hard, and the GTX 1650's and 1660's are great for streaming with shadowplay and OBS via NVENC.
