Clunky FPS

Recently switched back to my LG Flatron W1952TQ from my old CRT and I've noticed that my fps within Counter-Strike:Source is now very clunky, although running at 300 capped and 100 capped. I realize that CRT's run at a higher frequency than most LCD's, but my CRT ran at 80hz and this monitor is 75hz; only a 5 hertz difference.

I've tried forcing CS:Source to run at 75hz through launch options and that hasn't helped in any way and vsync is turned off in all options. I can't even play in the resolution that allows me to use the 75hz (1024x768). Currently using 1024x768 at 75hz for Desktop resolution.

Could someone help me please? ^^ <3 More details upon request! Thanks.

For LCDs, you want to use 60hz.

Bit confused as to what is happening here, is it running at 300, 100, or lower?
Anything over 40 fps should be pretty smooth, you may want to explain a bit what "clunky" means.

You actually want vsync on if you are seeing odd image defects when the frame rate is high.

So change refresh rate to 60, turn on vsync and see what happens.

in the usa 60hz is the standard for older lcd refresh rates. you will want to use this and turn vsync on as mentioned above. when you start not using native options on lcds sometimes strange things happen. crts allowed you to tweak options such as refresh rates and resolution more so than lcds.

if by clunky you mean that its not as smooth as the crt then perhaps you are one of the people who actually does notice a difference between refresh rates in which case a new 120hz monitor might actually do you some good (provided its not an actual issue just the difference between 80hz and 60hz).

i'm not sure why you would call the fps clunky though... as the fps and refresh rates (although definitely relevant) arent the same thing.

The smoothness is just incredibly rough and "clunky", feels like I already have vsync on even though it's not. It has that "vsync mouse delay" feel.

Whenever I use vsync, it delays my mouse movements by so much and it just doesn't feel right at all..

120hz monitors are so expensive though but I guess if that's the only way I can fix this problem then so bet it :??: Thanks for the help.

Go back to the CRT, keep the exact same settings if you can (if the CRT will run at the same resoltuion), same thing happens?

Is the issue only in one game? What is the FPS you are getting? Can check though FRAPS or something. I think CS has a built-in benchmark you can run also.

Did you try setting the refresh to 60 and turn on vsync?

It works fine with the CRT's native resolution (1024x768). With this monitors native resolution, it doesn't feel smooth at all, and at 1024x768, it's a bit smoother, but it's still not smooth enough to play efficiently.

I'm getting 300 fps if I lock my fps at a maximum of 300. And I've only been testing it out in CS:S as it it's the only game that I play really.

Vsync gives me an outrageous amount of mouse input lag so I don't see the purpose of it helping me. I have tried it and it just makes the problem worse.

You should try another game, need to figure out if it's an issue with the game or the video card, or what. Maybe run a benchmark make sure the results match your system specs.

Is the refresh rate at 60 on the LCD monitor now?

yeah... more tests need to be ran to figure out exactly where the root of the problem lies.

120hz is only an option if its due to your eyes noticing a difference between the 60hz and 80hz signals. personally 60hz looks flawless to me. a 120hz monitor will not fix any kind of driver/software/game issues.
