CM V8 VS Corsair H70 for i7 - 4770k OC

I`m in a bit of a pickle here! I recently bought a Intel 4770k and oc to 4,4. With my H70 the temps was on 80-90 idle! So I thought i did something wrong, and removed it, along with the paste. But nothing changed.

So I got sick of it, and brought out my old V8, who gives me 40 idle with 4,4 oc. And around 70 maybe 80 at the most with intel burn test.

I have an urge to overclock some more, and I want to be sure I use the best of what I got! But I need some help. Wich CPU Cooler should give me the best temps?

Should I try installing the H70 again?

THe H70 should give you the best temps but something is bad wrong if you had 80-90 on idle. did you have the fans turning on the radiator? and are you sure the pump was circulating? That makes no sense... only other option is that you might not have had the waterblock mounted correctly (or not enough/toomuch thermal paste)

Hmm that sounds ridiculously high. I have the h60 with a push pull configuration and an OC to 4.5 and never hit 60.

Do either of the tubes feel hot to the touch when it's idling high?

Thanks for the replies! With the H70 im having some troubles with the mounting bracket (The one who goes on the back of the MOBO) It doesnt really fit my z87 killer mobo very good! So, im guessing the cooler doesnt get "Close" enough to the CPU. Anyone know what I can do here? I`m probably going to try installing it one more time though. I used the cooler on my last CPU and was more than happy with it. Btw, what should the difference be between the V8 and H70 in the temps? Idle and load? any really significance?

But will the H70 be strong enough for a 4,6 and pherhaps an 4,8 oc? If not, any suggestions?

I have a z87-g45 mobo and had no issues with the h60 installation. Does yours require different mount of some sort?

As I said, I have the smaller h60 and with 2 SP 120 high performance corsair fans on a push pull and it handles 4.5-4.6ghz well.

If you were able to get the h70 to fit correctly, and add another fan to the equation, you should see more stable temps than what I have been coming across.

The h100 is obviously a better option but I wouldn't buy anything different until I tried what I already owned. "close enough to the cpu"... that line scares the hell out of me, it should be touching the Cpu and doing so firmly, if its not then that attachment is certainly the reason you're running hot.

The h100 may not be suitable for the case that is currently being used. As Supahos said about that line, that's most likely the problem and needs to be addressed before the CPU is toasted.

Fixed it! I had to be creative and use the bracket from the V8 for the H70! (On the backside) My H70 bracket just woulden`t fit! The H70 is without doubt better IDLE and under load. My temps (With 4770k ) Is 25-30 IDLE and 60-70 under 100 load. With my V8 my temps were around 40 IDLE and 70-80 under load with a slight softer overclock. This is with two noctua 120mm fans.

In short, H70<V8

Well yes of course I know it should be in touch with the CPU and I always thight the screws very hard. Scary hard even!

The bad thing of today, despite fixing my watercooling is that my 4770k won`t go over 4,4 without bluescreening after a while. So it seems my H70 will be good enough. Doubt it would have handled 4 hours of BF4 with 4,6 OC.

Have you increased the voltage? I had to bump it to 1.25v to go from 4.3 to 4.4 - 4.6ghz.

My Voltage is at 1.3. A bit high maybe? But i`m not having any problem. Could lowering the voltage a bit make my CPU more stable at 4,5/4,6?

My stats are :
OC 4,4
Vcore volt : 1,3
Override volt : 1.3
CPU cache ratio : 4.2
CPU Ratio : 44
BCLK frequenzy : 100.00 mhz
CPU Input volt : 1.9
DRAM Voltage : 1,5

Anything I could do to oc some more and make it stable? Or does it look okay?

Well, seems like I gotta buy a new cpu cooler anyway. My temp goes over 80 while playing battlefield 4. I had to go down to 4,2 oc. Any good suggestions? I can go as high as 250 dollars.

My temps on the h60 2013 edition with the 2 corsair SP extreme performance on a push pull exhausting the heat out of the case with a 4.5 ghz OC and the temps dont touch 65C. I also use a prolimatech mk 26 for my GPU and have 2 140MM fans up top, minimalizing internal heat.

Look into the Swiftech h220 or h320 if your case permits. Looking into the h220 as we speak for myself, to use my current h60 with a NZXT g10 AIO gpu bracket to use for my 780 GTX.

What's your ambient temperature?
