Read in a review that the Hitachi had a default setting of brightness that was maxed out. (100% of 100) Has this been an issue with those of you that have bought the screen. Is the screen so bright that you still have to take it down a couple of notches? Sadly I haven't got the opportunity to see the screen first hand. (Rural Sweden)

I have had this monitor for two weeks now. Yeah, they ship with brightness maxxed to 100%. I turned it down to 70% and still very bright. The review on brightness is WAY OFF! Don't believe everything you read. There are some other posts, earlier...where one user complained of Too Bright. This monitor is as good, if not better than any Samsung or Viewsonic I've seen. Just better quality. The monitor is beautiful! No questions asked. And fast...no blurring or ghosting in games. 2D is very clear and the colors are brilliant.

Connected via DVI...so the contrast control is not enabled...only with Analog. The quality of the viewable on this monitor is GREAT as it is. Turning down the brightness is where I want it now. I like it bright...but not blinding...I'm there, without having to sacrifice DVI.

Bob,

BWT as a two-weeks user you posting only rhapsodies of CML174 - that's actially shows your impression and partly proves CML174 choice but...

There is no ideal ever, you know. So that's why your criticism is also valid for new buyers.

What you've seen and could stress as a negative points of this display? If there are any...(hope it's exist anyway)

Please try to look from another angle on your sertainly cool monitor. ;-)

There is no negatives with this LCD. At first the brightness was blinding and the contrast was a little off, but I fiddled with the graphics card adjustments and now I'm in true love with this thing. My Gaming could'nt be better and my eyes aren't suffering from all the radiation of my old crt! This monitor rocks, if you don't have one and your considering an LCD, GET ONE !!!!

Lol, your eyes don't suffer from the radiation, cause a CRT barely emits any. Rather, it's the refresh rate and in some cases fuzziness. Just wante to clear that up.

Kickasso...

If I have one negative to share...it's the brightness of a black screen. If you have WinXP...turn the main desktop black in properties...choose none for Desktop wallpaper and change the background to black. You will notice that black is bright and somewhat silverish. Now...with that said...I can't even begin to explain how vivid the colors are on this monitor. I have seen Samsung and Viewsonic in addition to the Hitachi. Samsung is somewhat cold, colorwise. Reds were washed out and not bright at all. Viewsonic has better color than Samsung...but the 25ms speed of the panel seemed erroneous...in games...the ghosting was worst on Viewsonic. The Hitachi has really NO negatives in comparison. LCD tends to be brighter than CRT...if the brighter screen is going to bother you..I recommend sticking to CRT. That would be my only negative (and not a very strong one at that!).

Haha I was a little bit joking Flamethrower205, but a crt barely ommitting radiation? You got to be kidding me right? Have you seen studies done on crts and how much radiation is pouring from them. Screw the safe standards acts they have out there for all these monitors, they're still pouring harmful shite into our brains!!!!!
lol, I realize it's not 'just' the radiation that is an eye killer but you can't rule out that this isn't a part of the problem.

Come on GoSharks, please tell about how our CRTs are killing us :)
