Hello all...

I'm in market for new CRT or LCD monitor, how does the Hitachi CML174 perform in non native resolutions? Does the screen downsize the area of display?

Thx..

I'm running one... the text doesn't look as nice, but it does pretty good while playing games and stuff... I've currently able to play all my stuff at native and I just turn down the eye candy a bit and it pretty much evens out.

It uses the same area for displaying the other resolutions. I'm not sure on this, but I think nidia might have an option on there drivers to make it not fill up the whole screen, but I'm using ATI so I don't know.

In radio, we have a music scheduling program called "Selector" Selector is still a DOS program updated to run in the DOS window of XP. Even then...it's native resolution is 640 x 480. I run Selector every day...and so far..the text is still sharp (now mind you...the monitor itself does some stretching). Very readable, colorful, etc. I remember the same thing happening with a Samsung monitor...in certain games and DOS...the monitor will try to compensate. With the Samsung...used to get really fuzzy. With Hitachi...no fuzz...

aye, but that's basically 2:1; 1280/2x1024/2=640/512 (480 is close enough) so in that case scaling wouldn't be too bad.
