Does anyone know if response times become more critical as monitor size increases? (I've seen 15in models praised and larger models of the same range rubbished by the same reviewers)

I'm still very sceptical that this monitor can achieve so much for such a low price. Does anyone know of any more web based reviews?

Another thing is styling (not the most important consideration but still important if your spending £450/$600); does it really look as out-dated as the photos seem to show?

Doesn't look outdated. Comes in Ivory and Black. The side bezels are the same size as the Samsung 181 or 191t model...but the top and bottom are larger. Quite a nice looking monitor. I have seen Samsung 17" and Viewsonic 18" and 19" and they are all HUGE! Large bezels, etc. With the Hitachi...even the top and bottom are smaller than the Samsung and Viewsonic. Only the Samsung 191t and 181t have smaller top / bottom bezels. I find the Hitachi quite a nice addition to my system. Replaced a Hitachi CRT with it. Guess I still like the old Ivory color scheme.

The Hitachi Rocks, plain and simple. Get it from monitors direct and they'll ship it for free!! Also on a side note, They've got the lowest price on it to! I got a black one and it looks awesome. too bad you can't post pics here. Comone Tom's, ad some picture upload space!!

That would be difficult as I live in the UK. Mind you the panel is available here for only £420($650). I find this very strange as every 25ms panel on the market costs at least £520 here.

Also the typo on the Hitachi web-site regarding 266k colours seems to be even in their product data sheets; is this definatley a typo? (I have my doubts; I emailed Hitachi but got no response)

Check one of the other posts. GOSHARKS clearly stated that the color issue WAS a typo? One of the reasons that the prices are so high on the other panels. The other panels were manufactured and sold to re-sellers during a time when prices were higher. They have to sell the older stock for higher prices, so as not to lose a lot of money. CHeck the manufacturing date on many of the more expensive 25ms panels...most in June, July and Aug. The Hitachi CML174 that I sit in front of is September 2002...around the time that the first press release came out.
