[SOLVED] Cmos battery interfering with posting

Was trying to reset my bios after a failed oc (msi mobos don't like not having enough volts through core), but even after leaving cmos battery out for 30min and then turning on, i had black screen due to no signal. I removed cmos battery and turned on pc, was a little dodgy at first, but was able to boot to windows. Why is cmos interfering with my mobo posting?

Don't have a jumper lead, so the only way for me to attempt a reset was through removing the battery. Will running my computer with the battery out reset the bios settings?
