CMOS Battery not working. Time needs constant update

The CMOS battery inside my old PC died after 8 years. (Phew that's a long time). So I went to the hardware store, bought 5 CR2032 batteries, checked if they worked, and installed it in my PC.

I turned it on, the clock got reset to 2009 and I updated it to 2017 using the internet time updater in the settings.
Turned the PC off (turned off the entire power supply to the PC) and then next day when I turned it on, the time got reset yet again to 2009. This happens every time I turn on the PC. I know it cant be the battery which is causing the problem since it does have enough juice.

So what do I do fix this ?

Did not work through BIOS settings. As soon as I shut off the main power from the PC, the CMOS lost track of time and got reset to 2009.
Now I have to keep the PC plugged in 24/7 to avoid manually updating the time each time I boot it up.

Should I proceed to reset the CMOS on the motherboard itself ? Will it cause any damage (I've read on Youtube that many PC's fail to boot up after cmos hard reset...)

Yes, first change for another battery (since you bought 5 anyway). Then enter the bios, Load the default settings and change the date in the bios. If that doesnt work. Try clear the cmos from the motherboard and again change the date in the bios

You want to make note of the current settings before updating the bios because the update will revert them all to the Defaults which may even be New defaults instead of what they currently are.

I would guess the battery holder contacts are bent or otherwise not making contact with the battery.

Without the battery solidly in place, every unplug is a CMOS clear, so manually resetting it should do nothing different.
