Cmos battery + plastic casing ripped off. How to fix?

Hello, I have a P9X79 LE motherboard and I have been trying to change BIOS settings but it doesn't work. I checked the cmos battery and... there is none. Even the plastic that holds the battery has been ripped off, leaving two pins sticking out.

Now I was wondering how you would fix this? Can I buy a laptop cmos battery, strip the wires, then solder them to the pins? Or should I just give up?

It will look a little dodgy, but at least you could have a removable CR2032 button cell battery easily removed if you ever needed to.

Hey thanks that might work. Yeah that was the right photo. Yea I have a soldering kit. All I would need to find out is which pins/wires are + and -. Also, does it matter if I get some solder tin on the motherboard? As long as it doesn't touch any other conducting parts it should be fine right?

Yes, you will have to find the + and -. Soldering definitely requires solder, so you do have to get some on the motherboard. Just be mindful to not bridge (touch) anything with the contacts. You wouldn't want a short circuit. Afterwards, it should be fine.
