I have 4 years old Asrock z68 motherboard. Im expecting the cmos battery to die soon. Before this happens I plan on getting a new one battery. If I remove the old cmos battery does this immediately erase all the bios settings I have? Or do I have a small time frame to play with so I can quickly swap in the new battery so that I wont need to fix stuff with the bios. Thanks guys

Yes it will wipe the settings, you must change battery with power cable pulled from pc, meaning there is nothing powering bios and it will default to factory settings, those settings will need redoing before you boot to windows again(so make notes), especially sata mode, if you had AHCI before and the reset makes it IDE and you boot windows on that...

Yes it will wipe the settings, you must change battery with power cable pulled from pc, meaning there is nothing powering bios and it will default to factory settings, those settings will need redoing before you boot to windows again(so make notes), especially sata mode, if you had AHCI before and the reset makes it IDE and you boot windows on that setting, windows will try to repair, asking for disks etc. You don't want it to do that as it may never boot without reinstall/repairing, when all you needed to do was place the mode to AHCI before the boot and having no issues.
The amount of people that reset bios here and never restored these settings before booting windows, then having windows repair problems. LOL
