Hello all, I have a weird problem with an HP Compaq dc7800p small form factor desktop I have. It may not be weird, but I can't figure it out. When I boot it up, its telling me that the date and time isn't set and that I probably need to replace the battery. When I put in another standard 3v lithium battery, windows will not go past "windows loading." When I stick in the orignal battery, it loads up windows just fine. Both batteries are the same newsun cr2032 3v batteries. This is a work computer and we have an employee that always cuts power to the pcs instead of shutting down properly so I'm sure that could have something to do with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you have a voltmeter to check the voltage of both batteries? Good batteries should read better than 3V.

Did you try configuring the BIOS with the new battery in? I'd look at comparing the BIOS settings you get with each battery, especially around something like the IDE/AHCI setting for the boot drive.

The Bios battery is positive on up side. (CR2032 Hp DC7700) under power supply which you only need to raise up.
Also if you notice, there is a little contact that closes as you insert the battery. Sometimes these contacts don't close or are faulty.
A quick fix and possibly a permanent solution is to jam some aluminium foil between these contacts.
You will need to change the clock on your operating system and reboot again.
