CMOS Checksum Bad

So I have a problem here. My motherboard is getting a CMOS Checksum error/bad. The only way for me to turn on the computer is to clear cmos then select boot default setup after all the error messages and things. After that it works fine except for when I try to turn it off it hangs at the window screen. I have to manually hold down the power button for it to turn off.
OS: Windows XP

I think I removed the battery for like ten minutes. I dont remember how I fixed it.

thx dude... i just remove the battery and then pooff my pc run smoothly...
