I hope you have an answer to my following question(s). First let me tell the (abbreviated) story that lead to my problem.
Recently i damaged the protective coating on the glass screen of my IIYAMA vision master pro 450 (model A901 HT... 19" CRT) monitor to such an extend that i felt i had no other choice than to remove ALL OF IT!!(a damaged coating looks veeery bad...and that's not why i chose to spend so much money on such a nice monitor)So...i now basically have a completely "naked glass" tube....no protective and/or darkening coating whatsoever.

This causes a few problems:

1. my screen looks very light-grey instead of its normal BLACK(ish)
appearance when it's switched off.
2. The image on my screen (ofcourse when it's switched ON) lacks loads of contrast (what should be black looks more like grey)...and i have to turn the brightness all the way down to get the most contrast out of it.
3. a very strong field of static electricity is noticeable.

My questions are:

1. Do you think that i could possibly put some other kind of dark coating
on my screen......to at least give me back my contrast?
2. Do you think that that coating will also be able to solve the "problem" of the strong static field??.....or...better still....IS that a "problem" at all??

and ...last but not least:
3. Do you think that this coating that i removed has some kind of function
in the field of "radiation prevention"??.....In other words..Will i put myself at risk (cancer/tumors/radiation sickness) by using the -perfectly functional- "naked" screen???
The people of IIYAMA that i asked about these things are saying that it IS hazardous to use the "naked" screen...but i'm afraid that they are just saying that to make me pay the 270 bucks that they will receive once they replace my whole TUBE (they also say that they can NOT help me fix this problem in ANY other way)......and.....they do NOT give me the feeling that they really know what they're talking about.(or even CARE)

So....if ANYBODY could tell me that this coating has NOTHING to do with health related things (like radiation)....then this person will have helped me save all this precious money. I hope you can (and will) reply fast enough.....before i go to these IIYAMA-people to have my -perfectly functional- tube replaced.

Many many many thanks in advance (yes..i'm desparate ;-D).

Sorry to say but you made a small problem big. You cannot replace the coating, best thing you can try is one of those detachable glare screens.

The coating is conductive. It is intended to bleed the build up of static electricity off to the chassis ground. Without the coating the static electricity can build up high enough to give you a good shock. Radiation is not an issue on CRT monitors with or without coatings.

Jeee...thanks for your insights. I really appreciate this. Especially the fact that i do not risk my health while sitting in front of my screen is a greatly comforting thought for me. I think i'm going to look for a 19" glass glare-screen now...Any idea where i should look??

i FOUND a screen (3M AF200XL)...and am pleased with the image that i am NOW looking at. It has a ground wire...and gave me back my contrast...for only some 85 bucks ..instead of the 270 bucks that iiyama tried to peel out of my wallet.
Thanks 4 ur advice
