Is Coax Surge Suppression necessary?

What is the best way to do it? Through a suppressor strip or a in-line thread on?

Will it weaken the signal or add noise? how bad/much?

I have Xfinity Gigabyte service, non-fiber.

Any of the so called surge protectors you put inside your house are close to worthless. You actually take the chance that they introduce interference or maybe filter the actual frequencies the data is using.

The device is nothing fancy. It looks like a standard coax barrel connector that has a wire running to the electiral ground rod. This is normally installed very close to were the power enters the house so it has easy access to the ground rod. The only kinda special thing is the coax ends have rubber gaskets inside them since this splice is exposed to the weather. If there isn't one they sell them for under $5. All they really do is protect from a lightning strike near the house. If you get a direct hit it will...
Surge suppression from what. What do you think will cause a any kind of electrical current,

Almost every city electrical codes require that the coax be grounded on the outside of your house where the cable enters the house. This is to prevent a lightning strike from hurting someone by following the coax cable into the house.
