I Know there's plenty of examples of cocktail cabinets out
there, I've had a look at a lot of very good ones. I'm
wondering if anyone has examples of cocktails that have been
designed not to look like an arcade machine, but rather as a
coffee table...

Like many others, I think my best chances of having an arcade
machine is being able to make it blend in. I've got ideas in my
head, and scribbled on paper - Varnished timber legs and frame
doing all the real support work, with thin matt black painted
MDF to stop the innards being visable, the sticks and buttons
removable when not in use, only about 60cm (2 feet) high, with
extendable legs when you want to play it, but I'm wondering if
anyone else has done anything like this.

So, anyone?

TIA,

Not quite a coffee table but check out my cocktail table that I made to look
more like a piece of furniture than a game. I have a blog about the
building of it at megarcade.blogspot.com.

Thanks for that :) Not quite what I want to do, but still
gives me some good ideas to make it look more 'furniture like'
that I hadn't considered! :) (I Like what you've done to frame
the monitor - looks good!)

How big is that monitor? I'm bad at guestimating sizes, and I
can't see the size mentioned anywhere...

Lastly - Whats with telling the kids they don't need to put
coins in?! Sheesh, you're a generous Dad... I'm using it as a
way to collect their rent from them ;) (actually, I'm still
deciding if I want to put a coin slot in or not... Doesn't NEED
it, but would be nice for the hell of it)

That's a good point. BTW, does anyone have any experience mounting a
coin slot /on top/ of their CP? Will a regular (vertical mount) one
work, or does someone make a horizontally mounted one? I suppose a
small riser/box would work if it /had/ to be mounted vertically, but a
horizontal one would look better, as well as being easier to build.

Thats a good point. I didnt want to put a coin slot in because I wanted to
make it more furniture like rather than game cab like. My son now wants one
for his bedroom and my wife doesnt want me to build one. I told her if I
build another one I would put a coin slot in and we could give tokens when
he did his chores, behaved etc.

The monitor is a 19 inch dell/sony trinitron that I decased.

Regards and good luck on your project
