COD maps question

I recently got COD (not UO) and am trying to install custom maps. I
read to put the pk3 files in the COD\main directory, but I can't figure
out how to run them. I tried using the cheat code, but kept getting
text like spawn and defrag that interfered with the game. Am I supposed
to use the cheat code for custom maps? And, if so, how do I get rid of
the text and load the maps?

btw, I got one custom map to work but it has a batch file that starts
it. Thanks.

That's the problem with some d/ls. The author assumes that we already know
how to unzip-dir-execute the mod. I hate when I d/l something and either
there's no readme file, or the readme file fails to provide "detailed" steps
on how to use it.

Here's two suggestions.

1. If you don't get an answer here, try to find a COD website that has your
mpa & a forum. Post your question in there.

2. Did the author of this mod include his email address? Fire off an
email to him.

BTW Which web site did you get your map at?

Finally, I found this at one of the COD web sites. Not sure if this helps
you. Are you trying to run a single player map, or multiplayer map?

To run a server do the following:

1) Start Call of Duty Multiplayer
2) Select the "Mods" menu option
3) Select "Merciless" from the mods list
4) Click "Launch"
5) When game restarts afterwards, select "Create Server"
6) Click through the gametypes until you get to the desired "Merciless"
gametype
7) Select the server options for that gametype
8) Click start to start the server

Thanks. I scoured COD sites and the only instructions I found were to
put the pk3 file in the cod/main directory.

I tried starting multiplayer mode and the only map the showed up under
mods was the one that came with a batch file. I looked at the batch
file and it was over my head. Most maps are multiplayer and since I'm
on dial-up they're pretty useless, unless I was on a LAN.

I'm just going to stick with the normal COD levels since it's such a
fine game. :)

It's been awhile since I've played CoD; and the times when I played it, I
never used any mods with it. I have with other games. I'm reading some
of the COD single player mods on the web sites, and most of them say to
unzip into the CoD/Main dir. And to deleter/remove any other pk3 files.
Ok, so what next?

So I'm guessing that the mod automatically kicks in when you launch CoD.
Or else there's a "Mod" link some where in the main menu.

Darn, now I'm going to have to d/l, install, and insert my CoD CD to see
what's what.
Or hunt for my CoD game manual and see what it states about using mods. :)

Well I played around with it and here's what I came up with.

1. Nothing in the manual on "Mods".
2. The Mods menu is only found in the Multiplayer menu.
3. Some mods are really only multiplayer maps; they show up as new maps
when you go to host a game.
4. I was able to d/l a single player mod and it worked fine. All I did
was unzip it into the CoD\Main dir and then start the game. The mod
changed some weapons, A/I, added blood, and removed the X hairs.
5. One of the single player mods that I d/l didn't do anything. It might
be because my version of CoD is v1.3? That or the mod is for the Expansion
pack?

BTW Are you trying to run multiplayer maps/mods, or single player mods?

Here's the single player mod that I got to work.

btcod15.zip

Installation:
1. Unzip the user_no_music.pk3, user_skins.pk3 and user_BtCoD.pk3 to a
folder of your choosing in the Call of Duty main directory, make a copy of
the desctop icon and add the target line +set fs_game *your folder*
(c:\games\CoD +set fs_game BtCoD) to it.
OR
2. Unzip the user_no_music.pk3, user_skins.pk3 and user_BtCoD.pk3 to your
Call of Duty /Main folder and run the game.

If you want to keep the music in the game, don't install user_no_music.pk3.
