Prices are in canadian dollars (CAD)! So not so bad as I first thought.

Those are actually pretty decent prices (Thanks to Ryzen!!). I7-8700K being only ~50$ more than the 7700k.

Coffee Lake' release has left me scratching my head. Intel have only just released the Skylake/Kaby x Processors, and it seems to me that Coffee Lake if released soon, is just gonna cannibalise the sales for those SL/KL. Along with some underwhelming performance from some of the chips (the 7740 comes to mind) that Intel have released. I think Intel have already made a mistake, and have been caught with their pants down.

I3-8100 is priced nicely. Getting Ryzen 3 OC performance plus IGP for the same price. I3-8350K could be a killer gaming chip but price should be in 150 USD range to really persuade people not to rather go with "future proof" 6c/12th Ryzen 5 1600 for the same price.

Yeah, Intel wasn't counting on Ryzen being as good as it was and now have to rush out some higher core count products in order to compete. In retrospect they probably shouldn't have even bothered with the Kaby Lake refresh but I guess they were hoping to either squeeze some more money out before Ryzen hit, or hoped Ryzen would be another Bulldozer style faceplant and Kaby Lake would remain competitive.

7700k was about that much when it first came out.
About as fast as 7700k, would that be good enough? Of course overclocking will be more of a challenge... more heat for trying to hit 5ghz due to extra cores/threads.
