Collector Quest

I don't know if this was intended as a noob quest or not. It has
all the markings of a new player quest, going all over the place,
seeing and doing things. And it almost always includes a trip to
Ilsh, something I think is encouraged as often as possible.

I've heard vet players say it's a tough quest. Dunno why, I
soloed it 3 times in about an hour. Perhaps it's a leftover from
when they were new. Some of those monsters you need to photo are
in tough places. I know I thought it was a tough one my first
time.

It all started Sunday night when a friend wanted to show his GF
around. She's just joined the game, and we get stuck for ideas
of where to take her and what to show. This seemed like a good
opp.

For some unknown reason I've decided I want an obsidian statue.
That's 10 quests if rumours are to be believed. I think I have 6
so far.

This thing snowballs too. We stop to say hi to people, what ya
doing, where ya going? They find out we're starting a quest,
they join in. There were 7 of us last night. I always get a
chuckle watching a mob try and get in to a gate.

I wish the Hag gave off decent rewards. I think I had fun on
that, the one time I tried it.

I did it once. Seemed rather boring to me.

Is there some assurance you won't just get 10 of the same pieces of
obsidian? Or do 10 pieces automatically make a statue that is so dark you
cannot even see it unless you have a glaring white marble house?

Well, that would slow you down of course. Might appease the boredom
somewhat.

You just like grog, don't you?

Not really a noob quest, more an intermediate level one - say, about 70-80
in most combat skills. A complete noob would be toast within minutes of
meeting his first imp.

It's tough if you're not a fighter, and it sends you to get pics of balrons,
or Blackthorn Juggernauts! Try doing that quest with your crafter some time,
or even a warrior that's half way through his training. Of course, if you're
going to take two white wyrms or something along, or are legendary in any
combat skill, it would be as boring as anything.

Once, I got asked for pics of mongbats, headless and ogres. Yawn. The next
time, it was dragons and juggernauts. Luck of the draw, really.

Yes, ten quests per statue.

I do that one about once a month - any ten pieces will make a statue. No
guarantee that you'll get a unique statue every time, though. Apparently
there are about three dozen statues - I can't see myself doing that quest
360 times, somehow. You can see it - it's not 'true' black, more like the
very dark grey robes. You'll be able to see it against most surfaces.

I wish I could do something with those pictures - they're utterly useless
after the quest is over - as far as I can see, I can't even put them on a
wall.

Yes, it is boring solo.

Can't speak for 2D, but it looks no darker than my shroud, to me.
As far as I can tell, you just keep combining pieces till the
tenth is added, when it becomes a statue. They also have
slightly more interesting titles than "Statue of Julia".

And that is exactly what I wanted to draw attention to. Yes, it
took about an hour to complete, but no one complained of boredom
or dropped out of the quest.

It became a spontaneous group event, and at the end, went beyond
photo opps, when we started looting spiders in Ilsh. As we
visited the theaters, I noticed someone in our party was marking
the locations for a quest specific runebook, suggesting at least
one other person was going to repeat the quest.

I just wanted to comment on a game feature that we all know of,
and possibly overlook. I was surprised at the size of the group
that spontaneously banded together.

That obvious, am I?
