I am currently living in a dorm that only offers one wired ethernet connection. I have checked online and our IT dept. does allow personal routers. I would like to connect a Macbook Pro, Xbox 360, and my iPhone so that I don't eat up all of my data. If I buy a wireless router do I have to buy a modem or some kind of adapter, or can I just use the ethernet port to hook it up? Also does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap, reliable router? I'm not very computer savvy so any input is greatly appreciated!

As you said, just hook the one provided Ethernet to the back of the router. That's all you need to get wireless.

If you only need wireless, you could instead get a wireless access point. Otherwise, you really can't go wrong...

If you only need wireless, you could instead get a wireless access point. Otherwise, you really can't go wrong with any router from a brand name. Cisco, Linksys, D-Link, ect. You many be able to shave some of the cost off if you ask around the dorm for others who would need wireless access close to you.

It's strange to me though, every building on my campus has wireless.

Yea, I live in an older dorm with wifi in the common areas but the signal doesn't reach my room. Thanks for the clarification!

No problem. When you get the new router, make sure to change the default password/user. Every router is different so read the manual on how to do it.
