Color banding in dark areas

I just bought an AOC 2460PG monitor with a display port output, which I've upgraded from a Samsung SyncMaster 226BW using a DVI output. I wasn't noticing any issues with the old monitor, but ever since I've updated to the AOC, I've encountered some very noticeable banding in dark areas.

I first thought it was the monitor itself, so I RMAed it, but it still persists in the new one that I've received. Do you suppose it's a faulty display port input or maybe the graphics card itself (GTX 970)?

Any suggestions / help would be much appreciated.

Hey man! I have the exact same issue with this monitor! (also have a 970 gpu).
I tried everything, but the only thing that makes it go away more or less is applying Bright Frame (picture boost section of the screen menu) for the whole screen with the following settings (Brightness: 40, Contrast:15). It makes the picture too bright and too much "white", but the banding then is almost gone (almost...).
I also thought of returning the monitor, but now that I see lots of people haveing the exact same issue, I am thinking to try and live with it :).
