Question Color me impressed

I used the Install Assistant to get W11 today on my 'play' machine. The install process went very smoothly, no issues. All of my settings and programs/apps followed over cleanly with no issue there, so far. I went searching through the privacy stuff that was famous for magically changing on the big updates and no 'sneaky' changes were made.
I haven't attempted to play a game yet, but it appears that all my launchers came over properly as well. The only issue I have seen or found at all is that Riva Tuner can't connect/latch (whatever they call it) the devices. Haven't taken the time to look into that yet.

The transitions and windows flow nicely. I like the way it resizes and docks windows that are open in the very little I have done with it. Think it looks great. Very excited to explore this a bit more this evening.

A bit more playing around last night and got a couple of impressions.

The center dock thing is novel. I hope they come out with a way to resize that area. I already see that I can slide it over, if I choose and turn off certain aspects. I find some of the feature there unwanted or redundant based on my browser setting so adjusted some of that.

I like that Control Panel is still around.

The second click to full list of start menu apps is a bit of a bother, but no big deal since you can populate the first window with preferred items.

I could be imagining things, but it seems like the items such as Bluetooth connect a bit quicker and easier than before.

Mostly it just seems like a new pretty UI for the same Windows 7 base under the hood. It reminds me a lot of the changes that got made back with that Aero Desktop thing. There is a bit more visualization/effect going on with window transitions and whatnot. It's snappy and neat on a fast computer (this one has Gen 4 storage on an 11600K). I would absolutely HATE to have to deal with this on a machine that just makes the cut. I cannot imagine this being fun on a Celeron level. I would hope they cut some of that back based on capability.

Overall my initial impression is that aside from it being "prettier" there is little difference immediately notable. Everything you are familiar with is somewhere different, but searches well in most cases. I am slightly concerned about the gaming performance thing, but feel that may mature out in a few following updates.

Wanted to mention that I looked through the various settings and cannot for the life of me recall what I turned off alongside a few things such as the widgets feature. I was having fairly high RAM use out of the new install, but some tuning in settings, checking background apps, and just searching through the various areas I managed to get back about a GB of RAM use.
After that I went on to find that the motherboard manufacturer just came out with a BIOS update with Windows 11 compatibility. RAM use went from 4.7 (give or take a touch) down to 3.2-3.3 afterward. That amount was in line with average use in W10.

I think this will play out to be fairly big change in relation to the gaming performance bug as well.

Wish I could recall exactly what it was I turned off....It will come to me (I hope) and will update as a helper.

its windows 10 with a pretty paint job. Everything else is imaginary and you thinking it must be better because its new. I used it last 2 months. Not worth the "Must have it now" mentality

Ram usage was high for me the first few days but it levels out, A lot of the modern apps need to load from Windows store as they not on install now, so could account for extra use. I saw higher CPU usage as well but its back to normal now.

Mind you I never clean installed win 11 yet. Why? Its just WIn 10 sp1. its just another version update, mine shows as 21H2 after all

old image but only thing that has changed is build number is now 22000.194

Whatever it was that I found and turned off in relation to the high memory use has come back. I sit at 4.7GB on the desktop with nothing open aside from normal start up programs. When I open a browser with one tab, 4.9.
I am seeing higher than normal RAM use within games as well. My favorite, Div 2 is normally between 8-9GB in game, now I sit just under 11. The bigger issue there is that once it increases to 12 for (whatever reason) it tends to cause game crash issue. I have had this happen twice now. Total RAM on this build is currently 16, so assumptions could be made concerning page file needing some revision, perhaps.

I have been having a hard time interpreting it's "background app" use as well. For instance, I have my browser set to close (fully) and not run in the background. Even so, I can look in processes and see no less than two headings and between 8-10 instances after closure.
I have seen a few things open and running that I resume are the security processes but need to take a moment to look into those further when I have a moment.

I am of the hope that much of this kind of thing will be dealt with as the platform matures.

I love the look of Win11, it “feels” snappier than Win10, but it has a few bugs:

1. Right-click menu is different. Refresh on a page needs an extra click, which is super annoying! (I used a registry hack to have the Win10 right-click menu back).

2. Drag & drop files into taskbar or into apps that are pinned into taskbar isn’t working!

3. Both Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge browsers are forgetting the YouTube browsing history (browsing anything else is being remembered).
*Maybe I’m the only one having this issue...

not sure about number 3, I haven't had that but I have been on insiders, so maybe what I see is different to what release is. I think they are the same though.

My ram usage is about 6gb at desktop, but I would have to close a bunch of start up programs to get to a base of what windows itself uses. And question: Is this extra ram usage affecting anything or you just wondering what it is? As if windows is still smooth with more ram used, win? free ram is wasted ram (he says with 25gb free) so don't fight windows or it might slow you down. We have people who want to close every process they don't want running... but they don't know what all of them do so its hit and miss. And we tell them to stop. Beg them to... wonder if they listen.

Typically if I close something it is with understanding of what and why I am doing so. Mostly within the realm of things I am not going to utilize or just not wanting them to run in the background. I felt pretty much the same way about stuff like live tiles. Things I do keep running are items that I use day to day or wish to have updating all the time. Things like camera, microphone, etc. that I don't even have equipped on my specific machines get's turned off. Along those lines.

O&O Shutup10 just came out with their O&O Shutup10++ (Windows 11 compatible) version. I have been using this program for years and have never had an issue. Just make sure you read what each item does instead of just turning off...everything.
This helps with Windows 10 memory usage and will help with Windows 11 memory usage as well. It also helps enhance Windows 11 privacy.

I have not tried to load this on an AMD machine yet. Of the three I have two of them aren't compatible generation and the third is my main (home) work machine which I am not ready to have issues with, particularly in the performance dept.

After the latest update (as above) my RAM usage has gone down a good way and I have noted that a couple of my games are playing well better now. In particular I gained a great deal of FR in some of my Tom Clancy games. I have not experienced the game crash issue since that latest update, either. Seems to be a plus at least for Intel machines...
