Colorful blotches appear

I am going to try and explain this to the best of my ability. Recently I have been noticing that anytime that I enter a game, randomly I will get these colorful translucent blotches that appear on my screen which will more than likely result in the game crashing. These circular blotches that appear will sporadically appear quickly across my screen and then crash my game. Does anyone know what is happening. I am thinking it is probably the GFX card, but I am not sure. Please if anyone can help me. I would appreciate it

If this issue never occured in the beginning, then your GPU may most likely need to be RMA'd. The fact that your issue is coupled with the crashes may be an indicator of GPU faliure, but this is not always so as there are things on the software side that can also replicate the same issue. Since I hate to recommend an RMA to anyone (that would be my last resort), I would suggest perhaps trying a clean uninstall of drivers and a reinstall. Reinstalling DirectX installations also helps at times, but usually this isn't the most common cause of issues. There is one program which can tell you what manufacturer is your card's memory using (typically Samsung or Micron, mostly Micron, which has had many issues with the 1000-series cards)...

Its an ASUS Gtx 1070, I got it brand new about a year and a half ago. I mean I dont have any problems when I am using the computer like normal, no freezing, glitches, flashes or anything. It is specific to video games.

I play games in high settings generally, I have played around with the graphics settings, I only ever get these translucent flashing colorful spheres at the very beginning of when the game is loading, never during a game or when i am playing. It is really odd.

If you want, you can also completely reinstall Windows, though in this case, I may just suggest RMA first in order to avoid losing your progress in Windows (it sucks to have to reinstall programs and custom drivers, especially when you cannot recall every single one of them).

So to recap, clean install drivers (I hate Guru3D's DDU, but at times you may have no choice), check for a VBIOS update for your card (either Google it or check on Asus' webpage) and lastly, decide whether an RMA is right for you, or whether you want to run the risk of reinstalling Windows and having it solve/not solve the issue, THEN RMA.

EDIT: this is an example of a VBIOS update that exists for an Asus model on their support page. Hit Drivers and Tools, select your version of Windows and you will see a section labled "BIOS-Utilities", where sure enough they have an update for stability issues with Micron memory.

So currently I am reinstalling the drivers and updating the VBIOS from the link that you sent me. I really hope that this fixes the issue that I am facing. To be more specific, my gfx card is the Gtx 1070 OC edition. Again, I cannot thank you enough for the detailed and informative response you have provided me. I will keep you updated on this issue and if it is resolved through the steps which you have provided. Thank you!

EDIT: More specifically it is the Dual model.

Anytime! Just make sure to double check if you have Micron or Samsug first, although I believe it wouldn't allow the update to take place if you have a card with Samsung memory.

Please do report back on how it goes. I had just purchased the MSI GTX 1070 before upgrading to the MSI GTX 1080 Ti. The 1070 I had only had minor flaws in terms of artifacts, mainly with GTA V. Every other game ran pretty well. But the thing is that when the card dynamically clocks itself higher (noticeably higher in areas where anti-aliasing was at major play such as the grass), the artifacts and color issues slightly progressed. After updating the VBIOS, the issue was addressed, but I never liked the 1070 because I never was able to solve random frame drops no matter what I did, even after reducing settings in many games.

I was lucky to know about the Micron memory issue because I had been keeping with the MSI GTX 1070 Gaming X (actually the Gaming Z which is a really rare find) for quite a while, and it was at that time when I learned about the whole Micron memory issue. I was hoping to land a Samsung one, but it was much too late for that.

So after completing the updates and reinstallation of the drivers, I went into different games and not once did those colorful blotches occur and/or freeze my pc. I restarted my pc and tried multiple times entering a game and nothing. Thank you for the helpful insight, very appreciative for your quick and helpful responses.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm glad to hear that! Thankfully you didn't have to return it as the wait would drive anyone insane like I am going right now over a Western Digital 2TB external drive that suddenly failed :)
