Comcast Gigabit speeds significantly slower than it should be, potential hardware issue?

We just got the 1000mbps package from Comcast set up in our house.
Our Modem is a Netgear CM700
Our Router is an Asus RT AC66-U
Speed test result: http://www.speedtest.net/result/7312807282

While neither of these are designed for true gigabit speeds, it should at least generate decent Down/Up which it hasn't. At least on the upload side it sits at 6 or 7. For comparison, where I previously lived, the 250mbps blast pro package gave a minimum of 10 up. So I'm thinking this is a hardware issue. I got the Modem new and the Router refurbished. What are some steps I can take to figure out how to optimize maximum speed?

Yeah, I'd say you better get Comcast back out to troubleshoot the problem. Mine

Test the modem by plug into it directly?

It was pretty much the same. I tested out the modem and the speed wasn't much better.

I also say you should get better upload rates. Most modems have a screen that shows the power level and the channels I think the number you want to see is under 50db for the upload.

You may also want to check that the modem you have is the one they recommend for the gigabit package. Although in theory a docsis 3.0 modem can run gigabit speeds the ISP tend to run them at lower encoding rates. Most use docsis 3.1 modems to get gigabit...even though docsis 3.1 can run 10gbit if there network was good enough.

I don't mind if it doesn't give the full amount it could as it does with Docsis 3.1. But this feels so bad as opposed to what it should be. the CM1000 is one of the xfinity recommended modems, so I dont understand why the CM700 isn't doing well.

How old is the computer you are using to check the speeds? Some older nics build in desktop/laptop can't handle faster speeds due to old drivers. I'm on comcast 400/25 plan using a netgear cm600 modem with r7000 netgear router. I have a variety of old and new devices on my network. When I do test speeds from older equipment, my download speed max out around 120-180mb. This is on hardware that is no older then 10 years old and are combination of desktops and laptops that are hard wired. For the new equipment with last 3 years, which are Hp mini desktop, I get full speed test that hit 400mb hardwired. It could be the limitation of the nic based on the drivers. As internet speeds get faster, keep in mind that you will most likely need up to update drivers that can keep up with the speed or eventually get new equipment to stay with speeds. Hope that helps.
