Comcast increased DL speed to 105; can my MOTOROLA SB5101U utilize that?

I currently have my home network on a MOTOROLA Surfboard SB5101U. Previously I had 50Mbps from Comcast but they just increased it to 105Mbps. The question is, will my modem make use of those extra speeds, or is it capped out at a certain point? Likewise for my Linksys wireless router (which I believe is the Linksys WRT54GL)?

The router can only handle wireless G rates (54 Mbit/s) The cable modem can handle download speeds up to 38 Mbps. Typically though, if you upgrade to a higher level of service, Comcast will replace your current router with one that can handle the higher speeds (at no additional cost to you).

You would need a DOCSIS 3.0 modem to support the higher data rate.

You need to replace your SB5101U Cable Modem because it is DOCSIS 2.0 modem and only supports up to 38 Mbps, not 105 Mbps. $81 Motorola SB6141 modem seems a good one.

Your Linksys WRT54GL router may be another issue because it only has four 10/100 LAN ports that usually support 50 to 70 Mbps speed totally. If you have 4 computers connected to the router and access to Internet, then these four computers share 50 to 70 Mbps bandwidth. It might end up 12.5 to 17.5 Mbps bandwidth for a computer from time to time. Using a gigabit router like ASUS N66U, you can utilize all 105 Mbps bandwidth.
