Question Comet Lake looks like a new socket

I have an 8700K, and it looks now like my only upgrade path is the pricey 9900K.

I was so hoping to just be able to drop a 10900 (or K) into my mobo. (Or even the Comet Lake 8-core, instead of the 9900K, if 10900 for some reason would not work.)

I know I will end up with a 9900K. It's because it will mean I will get a good run from my mobo and RAM. Just a shame. A 10900(K) would have had this mobo going for years.

intels history would dictate the 10 series would not work.6 and 7 ok, 8 and 9 ok, 10 and 11, ok. two series per chipset is their historical precedent.
