That is the way it is. DATE never returned the weeekday even in former
versions of Windows and MS-DOS.

Ahum, Thorsten,

Then I must be running some very special XP PRO (SP2), because my screen
reads:

Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\george>date
The current date is: Tue 10/12/2004
Enter the new date: (mm-dd-yy)

and there I clearly read "Tue", seeing it is Tuesday today.......

:))

and....

FYI,

my W2k system says:
Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195]
(C) Copyright 1985-1999 Microsoft Corp.

C:\>date
The current date is: Tue 10/12/2004
Enter the new date: (mm-dd-yy)

and my w98 system says:
Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600]
(C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp.

C:\Documents and Settings\PeterV>date
The current date is: Tue 10/12/2004
Enter the new date: (mm-dd-yy)

I didn't bother to check NT4 and earlier, but there just might be a good
chance it's displaying "Tue" as well.

So..., just maybe it has something to do with the Regional and Language
options???
