Command prompt windows 7 full screen problem

I have a new pc (Windows 7) and the moment I got it home the screen display diminished so that it was something like three quarters of the full screen, with black bands on either side and having to swivvle from left to right to read the full contents of the screen. I must later have pressed something inadvertently, as it decided to be full screen again! However, it is back to three quarters format and I haven't been able to find any useful guidance as to how to get it back to full screen again. Please help! This is driving me mad!

what graphics card are you using?.....check you display properties and see what settings your video card is set to for scaling the image,it sounds like the screen image scaling is set wrong...........
