Comp turns off under load

fisrtly let me apologise for spelling and grammer, imagine this entire question being powered by dyslexia i made a comp and it was working fine till i upgraded the cpu from a propus athlon 620 to a phenom II 955, i also recently installed a 5870, since installing the cpu the comp has switched off under heavy load, its not temps as i have stress tested the cpu with prime 95 it reaches 55-56 max, the gpu gets to 86 max underload and the motherboard never gets above 50, i can crash the comp only when put all the components under stress. the su is my fear as i cut corners but i dont wanna replace it if i dont have to, the psu is as follows oryxx titan 800w "gaming" psu DC Output is as follows

800W Max output

+5V = 24A, +5VSB = 3A

+12V(1) = 20A, +12(2)V = 20A

-12V = 0.8A +3.3V = 24A

before the 955 got installed the card was overclocked via ati overdrive i have changed this so the card isnt oc at all and the issue still occurs, i fist noticed the issue while playing dow 2 and am now worried about not having disgnosed the psu efficiently if there is anything u can advice to help me rule out any other issues please advise. all drivers are up to date i have programs and have manually checked to make sure i am up to date also. ty in advance and sorry about the presentation of this mail.

what is your psu brand? and also your amps are not sufficient to run your system. as far as i know, ati radeon 5870 requires more than 40 amps and if your psu is offering only 40 amps, as per your facts say, then how will the system run as well. i think your psu is the culprit change it and the problem will go away. by looking at your psu wattage and ampere i can say that it is not a well know brand psu because 800w psu dont offer 40 amps they offer a hell more than that. hope i helped.
 
id worry about the power supply, too. i googled that psu, got the manufacturers site, and the power specs arent even listed.

id say it cant cut the mustard, a combined 40a rating on the 12v isnt much, youll need 40a for the 5870 alone. hell, a corsair 400w has 30a on the 12v. go and get yourself a name brand psu.

this i feared thank you, firstly for not tearing me apart for the grammar and secondly for your help, i have learnt that every time i try and save myself money i end up costing myself money, is there any information u can provide me so i might get a refund as i was assured this psu would meet my needs, i mean any way in which i may prove the psu is the issue.

this was the first pc i made, i have learnt a lot of lessons and fallen for most of the noob mistakes but i did check with the seller to make surethis would be an ok psu i was lied to it seems ty for your help

this corsair tx950 will be morethan enough to power up 4 ati radeons 5870s so dont worry about the crossfire thingy. hope i helped
 
ok one final run through if i can save any money yoour all welcome to come round for tea, with the phenom II 955 and 2 5870 plus 2 hd and a diskdrive maybe overclocked but not heavily with the M4A79 Deluxe mobo what is the cheapest psu u could advise for these needs, sorry if those allready suggested would work i couldnt say. the extent of my noobiness is infinite

one thing that there are many people saying that corsair tx 950 was not compatible with asus's x58 motherboard. as i was interested in this psu, i researched about it. few guys said that all asus motherboards are not compatible with it, this psu will lead to freezes/hanging of the system. but recently i got to know that corsair and asus has fixed the problem. this was told by one of the members of this forum. so i think it will be alright. if u dont have a problem like that then i can tell u that u will not have to worry about psu for a long time as this corsair powersupply is very good in performance. hope i helped.

the only way i can think of is to take out your vga card and run a much lighter one. like a simple pci vga card or very old vga cards. then u wont have any problems with your system. the thing is that when your system is currently running at peak performance, it need more power and your psu cant supply the required amount, thus the system shuts down. and if u are using a cheap quality psu then i suggest that u should avoid using your system even for the smallest of things because then your psu will be working on its peak at all times and due to cheap quality, it can burn your system, especially motherboard. hope i helped
 
jsc is correct. The current (amps) on the +12 volt rails which supply the cpu and video cards is too low. 40 amps is what I would expect on a high quality 500 watt power supply. I could not find a competent technical review of the power supply.

500 Watt or greater power supply with two 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® power connectors.

600 Watt or greater power supply with four 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® power connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode.


ATI Radeon™ HD5870 System Requirements:

PCI Express® based PC is required with one X16 lane graphics slot available on the motherboard.

500 Watt or greater power supply with two, 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® power connectors.

600 Watt or greater power supply with four, 75 watt, 6-pin, PCI Express® connectors for ATI CrossFireX™ technology in dual mode.

The power supply recommendations are for an entire pc system.

The general rule of thumb is a high quality 500 to 550 watt power supply with sufficient current (amps) on the +12 volt rail(s) can easily power a system with any single video card made. A high quality 700 to 750 watt power supply with sufficient current (amps) on the +12 volt rail(s) can power a system with two video cards operating in dual mode. There are a few exceptions like the new ATI Radeon HD 5XXX series cards which use less power due to their energy efficiency.

A high quality 500 to 550 watt psu will have a +12 volt rail rated at 40 amps. A high quality 700 to 750 watt psu will have a +12 volt rail rated at 60 amps.

In addition the power supply should be at least 80+ Bronze certified for energy efficiency. There are some models available which have achieved 80+ Silver and 80+ Gold Certifications.

Before purchasing a new psu you will need to decide whether you will eventually have a pc with one or two video cards.

Corsair and Seasonic are two of the brands that have a reputation for high quality power supplies that consistently earn high marks in technical reviews. They are reliable, stable, and come with a 5 year warranty. Some of the newer models come with a 7 year warranty. Lately we've been seeing a few other brands offering some high quality units.



 
thank you all unfortunately things have gone from bad to worse the motherboard will not post anything now and will not load up to the poinjt where anything is displayed on monitor, i replaced my athlon 620 as i never had the problem at all before the 955, i thought this would do as a short term solution till a new psu arrived i also replaced the 5870 with a 9800gt green by palit, a low power pcie powered card, it worked before!
alas now i am completely locked out and unable to get anything on screen the monitor says no signal and i have followed all the steps i could think of taking right up to reseating everything psu cpu and all the slots except the case usb ( coz they are fiddley little bstards) any help or advice as i am begining to suspect the motheroard, the motherboard in question is http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=K10N78FullHD-hSLI%20R3.0
i have tried using a winpower psu we had lying around to power the athlon 620 and
9800 gt with only one hd and dd it shouldve worked, i get same results with both psu i have /
i asked earlier about the asus as it is arriving tomorrow, i still needed this motherboard as i was selling it to help pay for the new one, if u have any ideas about what may be wrong or how to fix it i would be eternally grateful, btw i will probably be getting an ocz psu as they have them in my local store i just need to check their specs when the store opens tomorrow. ty thus far and if it is relevant sorry for what by now must be a question asked in an innapropriate section of the forum
