Comp won't boot up, is the motherboard dead?

Hello all,

I'm putting together a computer and I'm running into issues with getting and graphics on the monitor. I don't have a motherboard speaker (waiting for one to arrive) and I don't have another PC to try each individual part yet.

So far, I get:
- CPU fan spinning
- PSU fan spinning
- Optical disc functional
- Lights on case power button

I don't get:
- lights on mobo
- display on screen

Currently, I'm plugging my display adapter directly to the mobo. I did purchase a graphics card, but that got no signal as well. I've tried both HDMI and VGA.

Is the mobo dead? Could it be the RAM? Would BIOS show up regardless of a hard drive plugged in?

The parts:
Motherboard: ASUS B85M-G R2.0 LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

RAM: HyperX FURY 8GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Memory Model HX316C10FB/8

CPU: Intel Pentium G3258 Haswell Dual-Core 3.2 GHz LGA 1150 53W BX80646G3258 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics

Graphics: XFX HD 5000 Radeon HD 5450 DirectX 11 HD-545X-ZQH2 1GB 64-Bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready Low Profile Ready Video Card

PSU: Cooler Master Elite V2 - 550W Long-Lasting Power Supply with Full Electrical Protection (OVP / UVP / OPP / OCP / SCP

Oh, and I've followed the boot issues guide as well as capable.

Thank you.

edit: forgot to add psu.

Memory Model HX316C10FB/8

This module has been tested to run at DDR3-1600 at a low latency timing of 10-10-10 at 1.5V. Although it can run at slower speeds, you need to be able to get into the BIOS to set the memory clock. The Kingston HyperX Fury are programmed to run at 1600MHz when installed.

Problem is the Pentium G3258 uses 1333MHz, 1600(OC). If you aren't overclocked then it may have trouble booting up.

It's currently on the mobo box. I haven't connected any usb headers or fans other than the CPU fan. Both HDMI and VGA cords are connected though.

@Calvin7
I didn't understand too well, so please correct me if I'm mistaken. I'll be home later tonight with a functioning computer. Should I overclock the CPU to 1600? Does it have to match the RAM?

Thank you both for your time.

Try a different ram slot if you don't have a different ram. Then try a different Psu. But before trying a different Psu, make sure you connect that power cable next to the cpu is correct.

@chase702 motherboard is ASUS B85M-G R2.0 LGA 1150 Intel B85 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard. I'll be able to try a different PSU tonight. Even if I'm getting power to my CPU fan, PSU fan spinning and lights on my case, could the PSU be an issue?

Yes. Something that power cable that is next to the cpu is the wrong connector. Because they look similar to the power connect for a graphic card. Have you double check that?

Hello all, hope it's okay to bump my thread.

I've recieved a mobo speaker and the beeps I hear are 1 long and two short. From what I've read, ASUS UEFI bios beep code of 1 long and 2 short means a problem with the display. However, 1) I get the beep code when I have no RAM placed and 2) I get the beep code when I try both onboard graphics and a seperate graphics card with RAM. Both of these result in the original issue of no display on my screen. I've tried a TV with VGA and HDMI and now a monitor with VGA. Both TV and monitors do work with another PC connected.

Does this mean that the graphics portion of my motherboard is messed up? Or am I interpretting the beeps wrong? I forgot to mention that I've tried another stick of RAM and recieved the same beep codes. I'm assuming my mobo isn't dead since it beeps.

Thanks for your time.
