Hi,
I'm looking to build a Compact PC with a GTX 980 (/Ti) - and need some suggestions. I know it's a contradicting requirement - but there you are! I am planning to start a few projects that will require a high end gpu (real-time gpu accelerated ray tracing/CUDA) and also am planning to use and develop for Oculus VR. As of now , I am leaning towards Geforce GTX 980 Ti.
On the other hand - I am apprehensive getting a Desktop PC. I sometimes need to move around and it will be preferable if I am able to carry my system (that is, as cabin luggage on a flight). Obviously I would have preferred a laptop - that's what I've been using for last few years for work - but as I understand no laptop will be good enough for Oculus VR development (I know they recently launched gtx 980 laptops but that's over my budget and also have doubts about their cooling/stability).
Build preferences: i7 5820/6700; GTX 980 Ti, 16 GB RAM,SSD 500 GB
I am okay with not having any other peripherals - to save space/power.
Budget : ~USD 1700 (Somewhat flexible).
So my questions are:

1. What are my choices for mini/compact cases/motherboards, that I can use with 980 Ti (with reasonably ok colling)?
2. In OriginPC.com, they are allowing me to choose miniITX/MicroATX (e.g. Silverstone RV Z01) with a GTX 980 Ti, but when I called my local memory express shop ( a pc hardware chain in Canada) they recommended against it as it will not have sufficient cooling. In fact they recommended against any compact build. Can you suggest?
3. Is there a way to get a GTX 980 for laptop in a desktop?
4. Any other facts I should know?

Update: As mentioned above, will like to carry in a flight - so a flat/rectangular case is better than something like Corsair 250D.

As always, thanks a lot for your help.
Cheers, Wizkid

@ CTurbo - thanks for your input - however, as I mentioned will prefer a slim case instead of the cubic/shoebox types...

So I manged to build the below system, inspired by RVZ01 build ; and recoomendations in Originpc.com

Obviously - I will have one cooler. I understand liquid cooled is better (is it?) - but the cooler master one is generating a compatibility note.
can you suggest /give inputs on which cpu cooler to use?
Thanks for your suggestions !
