All Compaq models are not the same.

DVD drives do not need drivers added, beyond what any optical drive would
if used in a non-windows environment, like DOS. Instead they need only a
player software for watching DVDs. The DVD should be fine in any system.

As screwy as Compaq systems are, the memory or hard drive, etc, from one
will work fine in another given the same limitations seen with any
(non-Compaq) system. For example, PC100 memory isn't suitable for a P4
system using DDR memory, and a SATA controller couldn't run an ATA100 HDD
without an adatper, etc... but that's pretty obvious stuff.

Basically the primary parts in a Compaq that are proprietary are the
motherboard itself, sometimes the power supply, and crazy-odd case design,
but even the case "usually" fits a standard mATX board. Any other parts
are for all intents and purposes, standard for their age.
