I have an issue that I've never heard of before. My laptop was dropped
and stopped booting. The power light came on but nothing else
happened. I checked it out till I gave up on the pulling
batteries.,plugs and pushing the power button. I put it away a few
months ago, last weekend I was going to look at it and maybe look for
another motherboard on ebay. I plugged it in and it booted. It worked
all the drives, even networked it for a day and a half. Then stopped
booting again. Got the power light again. I replaced the CMOS
battery, after that I tried the plug, batteries and button thing
again, nothing. Just a power light.
Is there a timed reset or something that takes days to reset?
Any ideas welcome. Please.
TIA Durk

I would guess that there is a loose connection somewhere within.
Dropping the machine made the connection worse. Now maybe heat from
operation causes expansion and contraction which causes the connection
to creep to "open" and no-operation.

Go inside the case and re-seat (unplug/replug) connections.

Cross your fingers that there is no crack in the motherboard. That is
the kiss of death.....

Try removing the HDD and reseating it...

There is a virtuous fear which is the effect of faith, and a vicious fear
which is the product of doubt and distrust. The former leads to hope as
relying on God, in whom we believe; the latter inclines to despair, as not
relying on God, in whom we do not believe.
Persons of the one character fear to lose God; those of the other character
fear to find him.
