I cannot find the make/model number on a motherboard I have pulled out of a Compaq Presario 5441 desktop PC from 1999. I have located a serial number sticker on the PIC slot nearest the edge of the board which reads: SN9943534056. As for a model number, the only possible numbers I see stamped onto the mother board is GA-5SMM. Can you help me to identify this board. I have no way of putting back together the PC to run a BIOS or CMOS or hardware ID software for the board.

Thank You SO MUCH!!! -- I had searched google for hours, but kept trying to find it by the serial number or PC make/model. A friend donated the old Compaq Presario desktop PC to me to tear down and use for study purposes during my Assoc/Bachelors studies in Computer Network Systems & Network Security. Am finally getting to the real hands-on part of our labs instead of all fundamentals and textbook study. So, am still new to what's-what and how to identify old legacy hardware components without the help of software in preparation for the A+ exams. -- I REALLY APPRECIATE your prompt & accurate response. Thanks Again!

And that would be why you care.

I was shocked when I was getting my degree that it wasn't until our second to last semester that we got any form of hands on hardware training. We did all kinds of classes, programing, etc but if you held up a GPU and a NIC most in the class couldn't tell you what either did. As someone who had been inside of computers since he was around 7 I found this to be funny and sad. All the classes and training in the world won't mean anything if you can't pick a good server and physically get it up and running.

Good luck with your training. (And please pick the best answer so this can be closed.)
