Hi,

I have a Compaq Presario C700 that runs Windows 7. However, as Windows 7's support ends soon, I've been planning to upgrade to Windows 10. But will it run properly?

Actually I have found this thread, but the answer is by trying it, which I don't want as I don't have much space, although if I uninstall my other unused Kubuntu 18.04 I could grab so much space...

Can anyone help me? Is there someone who have tried Windows 10 on this laptop?
Thanks.

Intel Pentium Dual-Core T2370, 1.73GHz

Windows 7 64-bit and Kubuntu 18.04 32-bit, planned to remove Kubuntu but have no backups yet

Better to stay with windows 7 on your Compaq Presario C700.

Windows 10 really likes more cores and more ram. Plus you're most likely to have problems with drivers for windows 10. I mean 32bit version should run on it (64bit version may not - this needs to be tested), but performance will feel sluggish.

Windows 10 32-Bit will work perfectly fine on your machine. I have several machines from the 2007-2008 era kicking around running Windows 10 just fine. Just don't expect it to make your computer 'better'.

Buy a SSD from eBay. You can get really cheap ones but I do recommend at least a 250 GB Samsung model. This will make the computer much faster at most tasks, but will not increase the performance of video rendering or games.

Update: I uninstalled Kubuntu and dual booted Windows 10 (the 64-bit) with the old Windows 7, and it works perfectly. But there's only Chrome now, so maybe I'll try to load some apps, I mean reinstalling apps that were already on the Windows 7 and see if it works. And I don't know about the keyboard, as it broke.

Update 2: Reinstalled apps and everything still worked. I think I will keep the Windows 7 for compatibility.

EDIT: Sorry I forgot to mention, but anyway thanks for your answers. It may be useful to other users with different C700 models.
