I moved and before the move my monitor was great. After move it blinks compaq but will not come up. Computer is working. I do not want to buy another monitor if this monitor is asleep or something else. Can you help

Check whether it's the screen's main power supply, the screen illumination or the video card.

Try connecting another monitor -- or connecting this monitor to another computer.
Try shining a torch at the screen after (you think) Windows has started. If you can see anything with the torch the screen's illumination or power supply to the illumination has failed. If you can see nothing either the screen has failed or the main power supply to it -- see link:

thanks for your note. I saw nothing with the flashlight.

The power light on the monitor just blinks green on and off.

If you're none the wiser from reading the post indicated by the link (did you click on that link ?) it may be wisest to take it to a repair guy. Most screen failures are relatively low-labour to fix and components are generic so repair should be cost-effective.

Re-reading your post I think you should also check that the computer is working okay -- see if you can borrow a monitor and connect that to it.

Thanks - I think the computer is ok; mouse and key board lit up. Windows came up so I am sure it is working. However, I have avast and there has been a virus detected. I don't understand why avast did not take care of it but might be part of the problem. I will try to borrow a monitor. Thanks
