Compare core2duo and core i3

i am planning to take a laptop
dell is launching new core i3
will it be better than core 2 duo

^ Core i5 would replace the Core2Duo... Core i3 would replace Intel Dual-Core...

^ FYI i5 has replaced the C2D T6600 in the Dell Studio series...And not necessarily the C2Q...
The i7 only replaces the C2Q...
