About 6 months ago I ran into some issues with my aging build (see this thread).

Now I am contemplating either rebuilding my system, or going with a gaming laptop. However, I don't fully understand how to compare the two options.

Here is an example of a build I am considering: Modest AMD Build @ $1037.00 CAD
Here is an example of a laptop I am considering: Dell G3 15 @ $950.00 CAD

Would there be a huge gain in performance choosing the desktop option?

I don't game too heavily and am not really too concerned with graphics, so higher end builds would just be wasted potential for me.

You can always get a better price/performance ratio with a desktop than with a laptop. Just the nature of having to make things smaller, control heat, etc., that a laptop entails.

As an addon - how do these compare to my old build?
