Newbie here. Just wanted to get your thoughts on the difference between

Could I just buy the MSI version and just overclock it to the specs of the GIGABYTE?

Also, are either cards worth the price difference over just a regular GTX 660, specifically this version? I plan to use my computer to play this years games (i.e. Bioshock Infinite) on full 1080p on max settings.

The Gigabyte 660ti is $40 more expensive because it has 3GB DDR5 instead of 2GB. Depends on how many monitors you're running, I would pick the 3GB one if you have 2 monitors. Also, the Gigabyte 660Ti appears to have a much better cooling system.

The difference between GTX 660 and GTX 660ti is taht 660ti has more cores and will overclock much better. nvidia kinda locked the overclocking ability of GTX 660, so I would say it's worth the extra bucks for a GTX 660ti.

It's a 50$ difference for both 3GB and I'm wondering why? Could I just buy the MSI and overclock it to the GIGABYTE Specs and save the 50 bucks?

evga carries the following warranties:

the gigabyte gtx 660ti has 3gb vram versus 2gb v-ram.

the gigabyte gtx 660 non-ti has less speed and bandwith.

overall the best bet is to get a radeon 7950. when overclocked can rival 500$ gtx 680

for 300$.

I would not bump the moderators will close your thread on that so be careful. I would go with the MSI card I feel the quality of there cards is higher then those of the gigabyte cards. Plus there customer support is garbage (gigabyte). +1 for the TF 670.

Sorry about that, I'm new to these forums. Thanks for your response. I just wanted to understand, I'm looking at the specs and can't justify the $50 price difference for the same card. I can just see that the clocks are lower in the MSI than the Gigabyte but can't you just overclock it anyways?

You can. The twin frozr card is more of a good cooling card the overclocked card would be the power edition card which uses a newer revision of the cards cooler from twin frozr 3 to 4. I wouldn't spend 50 dollars more on a card on the basis of a factory overclocked card. The better value is in the cheaper of the two which sounds like its the MSI card.

50$ more isnt worth it, but 3gigs versus 2gigs is a difference maker in the longrun.

Maybe its very hard to tell there aren't many games that go over a gig of ram. And even so if you were to run into a higher resolution display the memory bit of the 660Ti would get in the way before the ram would be useful. If you spend an additional 50 dollars then the stock 660Ti you wise as well spend the extra on the 670 just my personal opinion. Take a look at the prices and tell me I'm wrong.

O.O! I swear man your portrait freaks me the hell out man haha! Either are fine I just really hate gigabytes customer service there cards have great coolers but beyond that they aren't pushing superior components caps, mosfets, and chokes which I'm pretty sure MSI does as well as ASUS.

Indeed I most certainly am..... I have a GTX670 overclock from them which is there higher end card with the windforce 3 card beyond that the special ends there besides the fact its on a 680 PCB and takes a 6+2 connector and a 6 pin. They don't advertise this on there boxed item Ultra Durable VGA™ although there webpage says it does. I don't know I've had graphic cards also from different companies when I got my 670 it was just a cheap box with a wrapped card and a small manual and adapter. I'm just saying its my belief that the MSI solution provides a better built product. I could be wrong but nothing has led me to believe that gigabytes solution matches there's ><

i cant say ive had msi, and asus mostly, but havent heard bad things from gigabyte, maybe just the presentation sucks, but u have concrete proof they got lesser quality caps?

I'm just unsure and that kind of bugs me a little. On there website and even with newegg's presentation they show it has the ULTRA DURABLE VGA

Maybe its exactly what you said that the presentation sucks. I mean I love the card it runs cool and very quiet its a great performer most certainly. I mainly got it because it was a card that has been well received by the community. Maybe I'm splitting hairs here between the two cards.

i really just think its the packaging, also i really dont know about ferrite and mosfet, those those really make a real world difference im uncertain, also ive bought a few graphic cards had ghetto boxes but ran great. also the winforce is a great cooling system.

i dunno ive had 2 giga mobos and worked great and cant speak for the gtx 670 but gigabyte delivers quality usually.

True, you are probably right. I'm curious if the powered edition offers better components. Then the regular twin frozr 3 card the powered edition uses twin frozer 4. I'm sure it does probably a dumb question to even ask the non powered doesn't use military class 3 components. And the 2 gig PE is the same price as the twin frozr 3 card.

Yeah that's what I was thinking that 3GB is used mainly if you're thinking about going maxed out with multiple monitors. I'm just going to go maxed out on 1 27" monitor that's fine with me. I'm just wondering why there is a major price gap for what seems to be the same card, could it just be the cooling/aesthetics + the factory overclocking? And that justifies a $50 price difference for the same card?

As for the games, the first game I'm probably aiming for is BioShock Infinite and any of the other major FPS games out there. It's not an issue at all for Starcraft 2 or any of the Blizzard games.

With the $50 coupon for Best Buy it is going for $159.99 I think that's a steal for that card IMO.

That is a normal GTX660. Hmm I would look at pricing elsewhere I wouldn't give best buy a rubber if it needed one.
