I have been out of the loop since this mother board was the hot item. When I bought my ram I simply went to the MSI web sight for the board and looked at the tested compatible ram. I would like all the features this motherboard has for ram and speed. This board is ddr4 so back when I built this rig I bought 4 sticks of 4 gig. I purchased Ballistix sport ddr4 with 2400 mhz and 16-16-16-39 with 1.2 volts.

A week ago my bios went bad. After some testing I found out 2 of my sticks went bad. Tested 1 stick at a time. One stick just kept rebooting the computer, another just didn't even let the computer enter bios. The other two worked fine. I figure to get another set of four. I wanted to look at the compatibility list but I must be loosing my mind because I can't find it. So here I am bothering you folks.

I appreciate any help I can get. This sight has always been a great source of help. Thank you.

Any recommendations for particular sticks, comments and opinions, quantity of sticks you think are better than four and why...

p.s. I searched for my original sticks thinking they would be outdated and cheep but couldn't find them anywhere.

Here => https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/support/X99S-SLI-PLUS#support-mem, you'll find the RAM compatibility list for your board.

Your current RAM sticks should have a lifetime warranty, so I think you should RMA all 4 of them, provided you bought them as a kit. The reason that I'm saying this, is because you are using a quad-channel RAM board, each RAM stick should be identical in order to avoid RAM compatibility and stability issues. So you may not be able to find 2 new RAM sticks that you'll able to pair them with what you already have. RAM stability is a crucial thing and it gets more difficult as RAM channels are increasing in number.

So in you case either return your RAM or get a new RAM kit with 4 identical RAM sticks. Good luck.

Thank you for your reply and that link. I don't remember where I bought the sticks from. Yep, I remember that I should always buy in sets and not try the matching game. There is a very small chance I have the original packaging in storage so I could find the receipt and where I bought them from. But maybe is it like some tools? like craftsman? Can I just look online for Ballistix and ask about replacing the sticks? It can't hurt to try.

You can contact the Crucial support and ask them for what to do in order to have your RAM sticks replaced. Likely because they do offer a lifetime warranty they will be able to help you. Who knows they may not require the original packaging or receipt. The only negative is that your PC won't work until the replacement RAM sticks arrive. Good luck.

Thank you. I just finished the online RMA request. It said I am now to wait up to two days for an Email reply. Cross my fingers.

You have been a great help.
