so right now i am running a dell precision workstation t7500

I 3d model and animate and the complexity is getting pretty high. I have a ssd that runs sata 3 but my intel xeon x5650 (12 cpus) runs sata 2. i can use my ssd but it is at half power. i was wondering if there was a decent but still affordable motherboard upgrade that is compatible with my chipset and also runs a sata 3. newegg preferable.

That has RAID 0 suport in the BIOS. Maybe try RAID 0 a pair of SSDs for more bandwidth? That also has SAS support which is full duplex and can go even faster than SATA3 in some configurations. But a bootable SATA3 card is a simple solution.

can you use an add in PCIe card (PCIe to Sata 3).
You probably won't be able to boot from the card, but you can then use the ssd at SATA 3 interface speed.

As a matter of interest what performance are you getting, what is your ssd model and capacity?

thank you so much. so far ive gotten decent speeds but when i get up to the 10 digit polygon counts it drags a bit. usually on files at or upwards of 5 gigs. im trying to run blender off the ssd and read/write all the .blend files (which get pretty big at some stages) its a SAMSUNG 860 EVO Series 2.5 1 tb

Do you know where I'd find the model of PCI-SATA3 i would need for the t7500?
