Compatibility Check Intel & AMD

I'm trying to make sure all this hardware is compatible with each other piece. My GPU is the only piece I'm not upgrading, so it's basically revolving around the AMD Radeon HD 7970. I am a gamer and am looking for the best performance, most stable and reasonably long lasting build.

This build, which ever is picked, will be going into a Cooler Master HAF 912 tower. I am worried about the Z97-A, and the space/size of the GPU. I'm running a 850W Power Source, I don't believe I'll need to upgrade that at the moment.

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7970
Memory: G.SKILL Trident X Series 32GB (4 X 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model F3-2133C9D-16GTX


Please let me know what you think of the two builds, I had thought about going with a AMD 8350 as the CPU at one point but I don't think it's going to beat the performance and stability of the i7 4790k. Build 1 or build 2, and why please.
