Compatibility Check! Please help

I just need to make sure that this older intel processor (Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 Quad-Core Processor) would be compatible with this newer lower end intel mobo: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard.

You can't use a socket 775 processor in a socket 1155 motherboard. Get a new Sandy Bridge processor like the i5 2500K and DDR3 memory along with the new motherbaord.

I thought as much. Well I'm trying to be economic here, so what's a solid mobo that could support the processor?

For the Q6700, the Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P and the Asus P5Q Deluxe would be a good choice. You should be able to find a used one at a decent price. Do you already have memory?

Unfortunately the selection of new socket 775 motherboards is very limited. Buying an expensive motherboard and new DDR2 memory doesn't make much sense.

Scrap that, I doubt they even make solid 775s anymore. Well, upgrade time it is, ty.

Yes, but it's older 184 pin of course, and so I'm faced with another upgrade problem if I want to overhaul the mobo.

I agree that a new processor and memory are a better longterm solution. DDR2 is 240 pins.
