Compatibility Installing an OS from a Different PC

So I have this faulty HDD which seems to have a problem with the OS. I bought to the service centre for them to reinstall the OS but they said even if they reinstalled the OS, the HDD will not be compatible with my PC because the OS was installed with a different PC which has a different motherboard.
It's the first time I heard this. I was doubting him a bit so now I'm here to ask for clarification if this is true or not? Can someone enlighten me?

PS : Not my personal PC but my office's.

PS : Not my personal PC but my office's.

He is right. You have to install the OS when your HDD is plugged into your PC's motherboard. Else there will be compatibility issues.

Yes. That is correct.
Bring whole pc to the service centre (not just HDD).

Is there still a possibility that it might work? I should've bought the whole PC there *sigh*

Hopefully, it might work when slaved to another PC for long enough to rescue your data.
