Compatibility of Corsair Value Ram

My Toshiba Satellite M55-S1001 has two 1 gb memory slots and runs fine with two Major Brands, Hynix (0.25 gb) and an Elpida stick (1 gb) = 1.25 gb total. When I tried to replace either one with a new 1 gig Corsair Value Ram VS1GSDS533D2 stick, the Corsair stick was not recognized in any combination, in either slot, with Hynix nor Elpida. All sticks have a CL of 4. The Corsair will work only by itself, who makes it? Please let me know what is going on? Is this an issue of OM ram vs latest greatest? Does Kingston memory also act like this? Why go to all the trouble to exactly match 200 pin sodimm ddr pc4200, 533 mhz, CL4 sticks if different brands will not all work together??

The only way to be 100% sure with compatibility is to have two identical sticks. Over 90% of the time different sticks will work together but it does matter if they are single sided or double sided.

Laptops tend to be even more picky about their ram than do desktop motherboards. Make sure that the ram you use is on the QVL for your laptop.
