I am planning to up-grade my system and would like to know which system would be more compatible with Flight Sim games. WinXP or Home Edition. Thank you, Bob Williams

When you say "WinXP or Home Edition" do you mean Windows XP Home or
Windows XP Professional?
If so there would be no difference since they are both identical as
far as stability and reliability.
The added features in Pro are not relevant to Flight Simulator FS 2002
or FS 2004

Bob,
I agree with Jup except to say that XP h.e and XP pro are
identical regarding INstability and UNreliability.

I've been running Windows XP Home Edition as well as
Windows XP Professional almost since the day they were
released, and I haven't had the first minute's trouble
with either of them. One should make sure one's computer
has enough horsepower to run it. For example, my desktop
PC consists of an AMD AthlonXP 2000+ processor (1.67GHz,
never overclocked), Asus A7V333-X motherboard, 512MB of
Kingston PC2700 RAM, 256MB nVidia GeForce FX5200 video
card, Maxtor 80GB ATA133 hard drive, among other cool
little bells and whistles, including XP Pro. My laptop PC,
on the other hand, is nowhere near as powerful as my
desktop, but it exceeds the minimum requirements for
Windows XP (barely).

In short, either version of Windows XP is extremely
reliable and stable, since both systems are built on the
Windows 2000 kernel, which is also to say that one may
also get away with running Windows 2000. So one has three
reliable choices.

More than likely you have a hardware issue or possibly a bad install
if you have stability issues.

More than likely? Well, it runs great with a Linux HDD
plugged in place of Win XP.

More than likely you have a hardware issue.
However if you are happy with Linux and choose to ignore the obvious
possibilities...

Issue? What the hell is an "issue", and how do you
determine that it's "more than likely"? By what criteria?
Windows XP is a great program, but it is still, like every
one of its half-dozen or more predecessors, frought with
many weaknesses that still lead to far too many CTD's and
freezes. And Microsoft is more than happy with that.
So tell me, what are the "obvious" solutions that you talk
about so glibly? Linux won't (for me) do all of the many
things that Windows can... but it does a lot, and I have
never, ever had a freeze. Maybe I'm just lucky.

issue = problem
More than likely because most people report Windows runs smoothly.
More than likely because hardware is a major cause of issues such as
you report.
Memory is a major cause...dissimilar memory sticks
Incompatible drivers...not latest drivers, poorly written drivers etc
The list of possibilities goes on.
Then you can also look at a long list of software possibilities not
the least of which is spyware, conflicting software etc.

If you are really interested in solving the problems and getting
Windows XP to work properly, start a new thread in an appropriate
Windows XP newsgroup:

Your explanation Jup gives me the same fuzzies I used to
get when George "W" tried to make us believe in WMD.

If you want to believe in both makes no difference to me.
Apparently you have no desire to resolve this as far as Windows XP is
concerned.
If you did, you would take a sensible approach as has already been
suggested.
Enjoy Linux.
