Hey,

Sorry if this is in the wrong section, I tried to find the best one. Anyways, I'm planning on doing an SLI set-up with a GTX 1080 FTW. I have an MSi Gaming 5 Z97 for mobo. and a Seasonic X-850 for the PSU. I was wondering if there would be any complications on either one of components listed above.

should be fine though I use that same psu here and would prefer a 1000w for sli use but a 850w should cover the more efficient 10 series cards a lot better

if I were to sli my 980 ti this 850w would be I'd conceder the low min amps I would go , but ''should'' work ?? [opinion]

What Intel cpu do you currently have in the system an I5, or an I7 cpu, and what gen is the cpu Haswell or skylake.

You should not have any problem running a Gtx 1080 SLI setup with the motherboard you have and with a power supply of 850w Elisz.

Though do remember depending on the cpu you will have will determine how many maximum Pci-e express lanes both the Gtx 1080 cards and the mother board slots will be enabled as a maximum for each of the cards fitted to the motherboard for Pci-e lane speed.

Don`t quote me on this but a low end cpu may cause a bottle neck when using two 1080 cards in a SLI setup so I would check how many Pci-e express lanes can be used as a maximum or are enabled on a Intel i5 cpu vs an Intel i7 cpu.

You get more Pci-e express lanes with a i7 cpu, but also it depends on what Gen the I5, or I7 cpu is.

That is why at the start of the post I asked what cpu you had and what Gen it was.

sounds like your good to go ..

thing is you only know after the fact , you buy the cards you set then up and run them and then you see if it all works as you expected or not ??

that's with anything with any of us ..

this 1080 at max is only drawing 22 amps so that's 44 amps for 2 cards at peak max your 850w psu is 70 amps on the 12v+ then add the rest of your system full load ..

like that intel cpu haswell is only a 85w chip so that is only like 7 amps ? for fun say another 7 for the rest ? 58 amps total full load from a 70 amp psu

''Might be held back if you have a low end haswell/H-refresh/broadwell CPU.' like what a i3 or something ?

I don't get that part maybe he can show us how

I've got the same, i7-4790K, 2x 1080, MSI gaming 7.

I have no issues with CPU limitations at 2560x1440 resolutions. (No cpu limitations at 4.5Ghz, haven't tried lower clock speeds with dual cards)
