Hi guys i have an Asrock z170 k4 gaming mobo and looking to buy a 5500xt graphics card. The mobo has version 3 pci-e slots, will it be compatible with the card?

PCIe 4.0 is backwards compatible with 3.0, 2.0 and even 1.0.
Regarding the cpu, an i7 is the best you can get on that platform. With Ryzen 3 3100 and 3300x (4c/8t) going to be available soon, there could be some priced drops on the used market for 7700k (since 3300x it is as powerful at only $120 msrp).

it really is a bottleneck. i think you shud consider balancing out the upgrade on both the cpu and the gpu instead of one thing. and if ur gonna play games then consider having 16gb of ram if not already.
